The history of UNIQA Re
The history of UNIQA Re began in 2003 with its entry in the commercial register of the Canton of
Zurich and its licence from FINMA as a professional reinsurer. With a handful of employees, the
company began reinsuring the first cedants from the UNIQA Group. As the international UNIQA
companies grew, so did the volume of business assumed by UNIQA Re. UNIQA Re established
itself as a competent and trustworthy reinsurance partner within the UNIQA Group and with the
Group's reinsurers.
UNIQA Re made a leap forward in terms of the business it assumed in 2012, when it was able to
count the Austrian Group companies among its clients for the first time. In the years that followed,
the company invested heavily in the expansion of its key functions of risk management,
compliance and actuarial in order to meet the ever-increasing regulatory requirements. The
assumed business remained relatively stable until 2020, whereafter the companies acquired from
Axa in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia were fully integrated into UNIQA Re's reinsurance
structure in 2021, leading to a further increase in business volume.
In 2020, UNIQA Re moved into its new premises at Alfred-Escher-Strasse 50, offering around 25
employees a modern and inspiring work atmosphere in the heart of Zurich's insurance centre. In
2023, it welcomed the new colleagues in Bratislava, who provide support through the Group's
internal competence hub UNIQA 4WARD. It also started offering reinsurance covers to external
customers in the same year.
Today, UNIQA Re presents itself as a reinsurer with a comprehensive range of products, in-depth
expertise and a first-class service philosophy, true to the UNIQA motto ‘living better together’.
